Valparaiso doesn’t have the population of Chicago, Indianapolis, or Grand Rapids,  but ask anyone who’s eaten their way through the Valpo Restaurants Directory, and they’ll tell you this city holds its own against culinary destinations many times its size. While Valparaiso holds true to its cozy, small-town charm where people are polite, friendly, and businesses support each other, Valpo’s kitchens are turning out scratch-made food with a level of craft you’d expect from a much bigger city. This is the town that gave Northwest Indiana Valpo Velvet, the small-batch ice cream that’s been a local legend for generations. It’s home to Bao’s Pastry, where the pastry case is filled from scratch every day. At Martinis, Chef Louie builds his dessert menu the same way he builds everything else on it — from scratch, no shortcuts.
